Tiger Stadium was rocking Saturday night as LSU welcomed in-state opponent Southeastern Louisiana. From the very first snap, the Tigers made sure to remind everyone why they’re a top contender this season. Behind a precise performance from quarterback Garrett Nussmeier and a dominant defensive effort, LSU rolled to a 56–10 victory, improving to 4–0 and showing off both star power and depth

.

First Quarter: Tigers Strike Early

LSU wasted no time setting the tone. Nussmeier led a crisp opening drive capped by a 12-yard touchdown pass to Barion Brown, putting the Tigers ahead 7–0. The defense quickly forced a three-and-out, and LSU responded with another scoring march — this time finished by running back Ju’Juan Johnson powering into the end zone from five yards out. Southeastern struggled to move the ball, managing only one first down in the quarter. By the end of the first, LSU was firmly in control, leading 14–0.

Second Quarter: Nussmeier Heats Up

The second quarter showcased LSU’s offensive versatility. Nussmeier found tight end Bauer Sharp on a red-zone strike, extending the lead to 21–0. After Southeastern managed a field goal to get on the board, the Tigers answered quickly. Johnson notched his second touchdown of the night with a short-yardage burst, and Nussmeier closed the half with another scoring drive — this time keeping it himself on a 7-yard scramble to the pylon. By halftime, LSU had stretched the advantage to 35–3.

Halftime Stats:

  • Nussmeier: 18-of-22, ~215 yards, 3 total TDs

  • Johnson: 2 rushing TDs

  • LSU Defense: 0 points allowed until final 2 minutes of half

Third Quarter: Depth on Display

Coming out of the locker room, LSU kept their foot on the gas. Nussmeier connected with Kyren Lacy on a 15-yard touchdown to push the score to 42–3. With the game in hand, the Tigers began rotating in younger players midway through the quarter. Southeastern pieced together its best drive of the night, converting a pair of third downs and capping it with a 35-yard field goal. Still, LSU’s defense tightened quickly, and the Tigers entered the final frame up 49–3.

Fourth Quarter: Closing It Out

The spotlight shifted to LSU’s backups in the fourth quarter, and they delivered. Freshman quarterback Michael Van Buren III made his debut, and he didn’t waste the opportunity. He hit Kyle Parker on a 27-yard touchdown strike that electrified the crowd and pushed LSU’s lead to 56–3. Southeastern fought back for one late score — a short rushing touchdown that closed the gap slightly — but the outcome was long decided. The final whistle confirmed LSU’s 56–10 rout

Final Thoughts & Looking Ahead

LSU showed complete command in every phase of the game. Nussmeier finished 25-of-31 for 273 yards with three touchdown passes and one rushing score, while Johnson added two rushing touchdowns of his own. The defense held Southeastern to just 10 points and kept them out of rhythm all night.

Now 4-0, LSU turns its attention to a tough road matchup next week — the Tigers will head to Oxford to face #13 Ole Miss.
