BATON ROUGE – The LSU Tigers opened fall camp at the end of July with the usual Louisiana heat serving as a backdrop to long practices and tough competition. Head coach Brian Kelly and his staff emphasized conditioning, discipline, and physicality as the team began its preparation for the season opener.

Newcomers Make Early Noise

Several transfers and freshmen have wasted no time standing out. Defensive lineman Bernard Gooden has been disruptive in the trenches, blowing up plays in the backfield. Wide receiver Destyn Hill, back home after starting his career at Florida State, has shown steady hands and playmaking ability, pulling down tough catches in team drills.

O-Line Shuffle

One of the biggest storylines has been the offensive line. Weston Davis, the five-star right tackle, has looked the part early, combining strength and quick feet to handle veteran pass rushers. Around him, LSU has experimented with different combinations, with Tyree Adams and DJ Chester among those rotating in. The goal is to solidify the five best linemen before the opener, while also building much-needed depth.

Perkins Setting the Tone

On defense, Harold Perkins Jr. has been one of the most dominant players in camp. Already known as one of the most explosive linebackers in the country, Perkins has consistently found his way into the backfield and even notched interceptions in live drills. His leadership and energy have set the tone for the entire defensive unit.

Nussmeier Growing Into the Role

At quarterback, Garrett Nussmeier continues to establish himself as the starter. His decision-making has improved, and he’s looked sharp running the offense in 11-on-11 periods. Despite wearing a sleeve for minor knee tendonitis, he’s been a full participant and has shown poise under pressure.

Transfers Add Depth

The roster has also been boosted by transfer additions. Wide receiver Nic Anderson has impressed with contested catches and consistency, while safety A.J. Haulcy has brought physicality to the secondary. Both look poised to play important roles this fall.

Building Toward the Season

As camp winds down, the Tigers have begun to focus more on execution and less on rotation. The early weeks highlighted competition and conditioning; the closing weeks are about polishing the details.

With veterans leading the way and newcomers pushing for playing time, LSU leaves fall camp with momentum and a roster that looks deeper and more balanced than in recent years.
