After two impressive wins to open the weekend, the LSU Tigers couldn’t complete the sweep on Sunday, dropping the series finale to Arkansas 7–4 at Alex Box Stadium. The loss halted LSU’s momentum but still gave the Tigers a valuable SEC series victory over a top-10 opponent.

Early Fireworks for the Tigers

The Tigers jumped ahead quickly in the bottom of the second inning. Luis Hernandez and Steven Milam each launched solo home runs, giving LSU a 2–0 lead and sending the crowd into a roar. It looked like another explosive offensive day was on the horizon after LSU’s 13–3 mercy-rule rout the night before.

Razorbacks Respond in the Third

Arkansas answered with authority in the top of the third. The Razorbacks strung together timely hits, capped by a bases-clearing double that flipped the score. By the time the inning ended, Arkansas had plated five runs, turning LSU’s early advantage into a 5–2 deficit. The Tigers’ pitching staff struggled to stop the bleeding, and the Razorbacks seized control of the game.

LSU Battles Back, But Falls Short

The Tigers showed life again in the middle innings. RBI hits from Jared Jones and Michael Braswell III cut the deficit to 5–4, bringing the fans back into the game. But Arkansas extended its lead with two more runs in the late innings, creating enough cushion to withstand LSU’s rally attempts.

Despite out-hitting Arkansas in the final frames, LSU couldn’t come up with the big swing it needed. The Razorbacks’ bullpen shut down several late-inning threats, stranding runners and closing the door.

Final Numbers

  • LSU Scoring: Hernandez solo HR, Milam solo HR, RBI singles from Jones and Braswell.

  • Arkansas Scoring: Five-run third inning, two insurance runs late.

  • Pitching: LSU staff gave up seven runs on 10 hits, while Arkansas pitchers scattered LSU’s eight hits and limited damage after the second inning.

Series Takeaways

LSU’s series win against Arkansas remains the bigger story of the weekend. Friday night’s walk-off win in extra innings and Saturday’s blowout mercy-rule victory showed the Tigers can win in multiple ways. Still, Sunday’s loss highlighted the importance of limiting big innings, something head coach Jay Johnson will likely stress heading into the stretch run of SEC play

With the defeat, LSU moved to 40–12 overall and 17–10 in SEC play. Arkansas, meanwhile, left Baton Rouge at 41–11 and 18–9 in conference play

What’s Next

The Tigers now turn their attention to a midweek matchup before closing out the regular season slate. With postseason positioning at stake, LSU will need sharper starts on the mound and timely hitting to keep momentum heading into the SEC Tournament.
